Barrett Family
Welcome to the Family Tree ….
This is our effort to trace the family roots. Hopefully with
some help from y’all it can grow some more. This information
is just what I have on hand and could pull together from some
family bible stuff I photographed and cemetery photos.
First, I would like to apologize to those who may try to
use this site with a dial up connection. Some of the family
tree files here are large (1-10 MB) and will be difficult
to open.
If there is a spelling change needed please let me know and
don’t hold it against me.
There are also PDF attachments of the family trees. If you
have photos of the people I don’t have a photo of in
the trees, I would love to get a copy to make this project
as complete as possible. If I have a photo labeled wrong,
please let me know.
ABOUT PUTTING FAMILY TREE INFORMATION TOGETHER
In Genealogy, information about families is normally gathered
and organized on family group forms.
Basically for each marriage or union creating a you collect
the following information:
Husband/Fathers Name, Birth date, Birth Location, Name of
his parents
Wife/Mother’s Name, Birth date, Birth location, Name
of her parents
Information on the marriage, date, location, church, city,
town, state
For each child: Full given name, birth date, birth location,
city state town, etc
And then if a child gets married or has a child – that
starts a new sheet for their family
Here are some links to some sample ones to give you the idea
….
http://c.ancestry.com/pdf/trees/charts/famgrec.pdf
and then click here
for a link to one at familysearch.com that is pretty good.
And this is probably the easiest form to look at
http://www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/genlh/forms/family_unit_chart.pdf
If you look at these family group forms you will get the
idea of what the basic information is that creates a family
tree. Of course, the more information and the more details,
the better the family tree. I am willing to collect and enter
this data into family tree files. You just need to mail or
email the completed forms to me. I will be glad to share the
files or (for the non-computer people) if you would just like
the family tree reports from the programs, I can provide that
as an option.
I am using Family Tree Maker 2006 Deluxe, but a lot of family
tree programs accept each other’s files. There are some
free programs out there, and the retail programs start at
about $20.
Contacting Me ….
For the Barrett family, it is easiest to contact me by getting
my email and/or phone number from Doug and Debbie Barrett
or from JoAnn . Unfortunately I am reluctant to post contact
information on the website. If there is enough interest we
could start a yahoo group or some such. I will say that I
spent several hours looking through census records and could
not get past W E Barrett and his wife.
I am really looking forward to this project and hope to hear
from everyone about it.
